From travel and tourism to insurance and healthcare, Mike has managed a diverse client portfolio in Reno, Las Vegas and nationally, with specialties in branding, strategic messaging, crisis communications, government outreach and media relations tactics. His background in national communications, public affairs and crisis communications led him to win the 2019 Public Affairs Professional of the Year Award from PR News. Additionally, his work has helped him achieve success for clients such as Nevada Commission on Tourism, Cold Stone Creamery, Olympic Gold Medalist David Wise, Newmont Mining Corporation, Frey Ranch Estate Distillery, NV Energy, Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Tahoe Douglas Visitor’s Authority and more. Additionally, Mike has landed clients on an impressive slate of national and international media, including “Today Show,” “Ellen,” USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle, New York Times, Washington Post and more.
Over his career, Mike has led some of the most recognizable public relations and crisis communications efforts in the nation, including the development and promotion of the made-for-TV, award-winning ‘Nevada Passage’ adventure competition that aired in more than 90 markets around the country and garnered hundreds of millions of gross impressions on behalf of the Nevada Commission on Tourism. Additionally, Mike led the media management and community outreach after the tragic accident at the National Championship Air Races that involved the deaths of 10 spectators and a pilot and more than 70 injured. This yearlong effort earned a Silver Anvil Award of Excellence from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Mike also helmed the media relations and public affairs for the planning, permitting, construction and opening of the Ruby Pipeline, the largest natural gas pipeline in North America. Mike also worked on the campaign to relocate the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas and passed bills to provide the funding and organization needed for a year-round, state-of-the-art entertainment and events center in South Lake Tahoe.
Prior to joining Argentum Partners, Mike led the statewide public relations team for R&R Partners, one of the largest advertising, public relations and government affairs firms in the West. He graduated from the University of Nevada with dual degrees in journalism and communications. Throughout his career, Mike’s work and leadership have secured him dozens of awards from local and regional PRSA chapters and several national awards including a 2019 Agency Elite Award for Public Affairs Campaign. He currently sits on the board of directors for Volunteers of America in Northern Nevada and is a 20 Under 40 Award recipient.
