Giving Back in a Unique Way

 In Government Affairs

It’s that time of year where it just feels right to be giving back to those in need. As November quickly approaches, we will start to see nonprofits hosting various fundraisers. The most fun ones, in my opinion, are the unique events that get you to raise awareness in a way that is FUN!
We saw several unique fundraisers throughout the month of September. A few that we participated in were STEPtember, The Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Over The Edge for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada. Each of these events added an element that got you so excited for the cause it didn’t seem like work to get involved!

  • STEPtember: The goal is to take 10,000 steps a day and live a healthier lifestyle. This may not seem like a difficult feat, but it is nowhere near easy! Luckily the entire company got involved, and we were able to hold each other accountable (while also adding in some friendly competition). The fundraiser not only got us to be more active, but it started the conversation about United Cerebral Palsy of Nevada and the work they do in the community.

  • The Walk to End Alzheimer’s: Talk about an emotional event. While several organizations host runs and walks, this fundraiser has an element that is interactive. Participants at the event get a windmill flower, each color representing the reason that person supports Alzheimer’s research. Throughout the morning, the flowers were placed on a hill, creating a Promise Garden, where the flowers turned in the wind. It truly was a beautiful sight to see.
  • Over The Edge: Encouraging people to raise money so they can rappel 27 stories from the roof of Grand Sierra Resort and Casino is one way to help children in the community! While the task at hand is extremely scary, the cause behind it is incredible and life changing for both the children and adults enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Just because September is coming to an end, that doesn’t mean there aren’t still unique and exciting fundraising events happening throughout the holiday season! TAKE A LOOK at some upcoming events below, and tell us what your favorite nonprofit fundraiser is and why.
